Nothing to Wear? Look in Your Closet!
Updated: Mar 2, 2020
When I was young, we spent summers at our country house, where my best friend also had a house nearby. Our families would go down to the lake, and we'd swim, and read, and play. One of my favorite things to do was to create towel designs and put on fashion shows, strutting the catwalk (pier) in our towel couture.
How are my towel reminiscences relevant to you? Here's the real-world application of that, if you currently feel like you have nothing to wear. (No, my advice is not "wear towels".) It's really simple and it's free: You already have a closetful of clothes (we all do); take what you have and try it all on.
For the uninitiated, this concept - and it's a favourite of mine - is called "shopping your closet". Look over everything you have, try everything on, mix and match and play around with the clothes you already own. Is that shirt not working for you? Try tucking it into a high-waisted skirt or pair of pants... step into it, wrap it around your waist and wear it as a skirt... put it under a sweater with just the collar and cuffs peeking out... wear a pretty camisole under it and then cinch it with an obi belt... add a brooch... a scarf... a long necklace.
The wonderful thing about fashion and clothing is that there are endless possibilities... endless ways to look and feel beautiful. It's just about finding the right look for you.
This is what you can do on your own. It will only cost you time and effort, but you will certainly come out of it with some new outfits you'd never thought of coordinating before. But if you feel you still need help, that's what I'm here for!
Whatever you do, though... If you choose to leave the house in towel couture, please don't mention my name to those nice men in the white coats.
